Nasa Lamode (born August 5, 1992) is an American rapper, singer/songwriter and record producer from Milwaukee, WI.
Firstly, who is Nasa Lamode?
I’m a music artist and record producer based out of Houston, TX, but I’m from Milwaukee, WI.
What’s the music scene like where you’re based in Milwaukee, WI?
We’ve struggled here in Milwaukee for a long time musically. There’s a lot of talent, but not much support. Our rap scene and style is similar to our neighbors, Detroit and Chicago. Mainly Detroit though. They’ve had a lot a success lately so that means that the music here is about to take off soon! Big shout out to the lady rapper from Milwaukee, Lakeyah, who just got signed to QC records. That’s the same record label that Migos developed. I hope to see big things in 2021.
Do you produce your own music?
I produced some of my own songs, but I like to work with other producers too. I produced my first single, “Mars Walk”. And then a year later I produced “My Way” and “Foxy’s Room”. Once I’m making more money and grow a bigger fan base, I’ll have more time and the resources to produce my music the way I actually want to.
What do your fans have to look forward to in the near future?
I’m dropping an EP called “Devine Intervention” in July. I been wanting to drop this for some time, but I kept pushing it back because I want to make sure I have the audience to hear it. I also want to provide some dope videos for them to watch. I’m also putting together my merch for my listeners. Theres some really cool apparel that I have lined up. I can’t wait to drop it. My merch store should be available in July as well, so stay tuned!
What Nasa Lamode track should we be listening to?
I’m torn between my two favorite songs, “Hazed” and “3am in Milwaukee” They are complete opposites, but they are both my best songs! “Hazed” is what you listen to to heal after a break up and “3am in Milwaukee” is my inspiration go-to. This is what I listen to for motivation.
What creative direction are you taking right now?
Right now, I’m really feeling the streetwear, vintage vibe. Here in the midwest, US, we also like a lot of designer apparel, fashion-wise. I might end dropping a check on some Saint Laurent or Prada. As far as for my videos and photos go, I want to really show creativity, so I draw a lot of my inspiration from Brent Faiyaz. He’s one of my favorite artists right now.
What music do you listen to regularly?
Is that the kind of music which inspires you to create music? I probably have the BIGGEST music library EVER. My playlist will go from Earth Wind and Fire to Don Toliver all the way to Premo Rice. I love all music so I end up making every single kind of music. I definitely draw my inspiration from my favorite artists. Right now I’m listening to a lot Babyface Ray. He’s a Detroit rapper and his music is good.
Is there any advice you would like to give your younger self for coming into the music industry or something to help the song writing/producing process?
Yes, I would tell myself to stop wasting time and stop doubting yourself. If you want it, get it. Don’t wait for anyone else to help you get anywhere. You have to support yourself and believe in yourself first before anyone else will support or believe in you. As for the industry, I don’t regret any lessons learned. My journey has been a beautiful one thus far.
