Who is Asch?
I think I'd have to say I'm just a 24 year old New Yorker who still has a lot to figure out about himself and who loves making music.
Please talk us through the meaning of your entrancing new single ‘Castle In The Sky’…
To me, Castle in the Sky is about the special someone in your life that you'd give up everything to be with. It's about how another person can be so important that their presence alone just puts you on top of the world.
How long have you been making music for?
It may surprise people to know that I've only actually been making music for a few months. I was never classically trained in any instruments, but have always been a lover of music, which led me to start experimenting during quarantine.
How would you describe your sound?
I would say my sound is undefined. By that I mean that I'm not tying myself to a specific style or sub genre because I like to make whatever feels right in the moment. I think if you label yourself one thing or another, you're subconsciously limiting yourself.
Do you have to be in a certain mood to write?
With such a crazy work schedule, I typically try to find any time I can. I've found that my best sessions have been when I'm the most relaxed, but that could be at any point of the day or night from as early as 8 in the morning to 2 am in the middle of the night.
What’s your favourite album of all time?
Now that's an incredibly tough question because I've gone through different phases of my music tastes. When I was a young kid I probably would've told you my favorite album was American Idiot by Green Day or Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen, but now I would probably say my favorite album was either Graduation by Kanye West or Until Now by Swedish House Mafia. I know, crazy wide range of genres.
What’s a typical day in the studio like for you?
I really don't have "typical" days. I work so much in my day job that I always have to just find time when I can to make music.
Where do you live? What’s the music scene like?
I live in New York City, and I think the music scene here is pretty unique. It's definitely tough right now with the pandemic, but under normal circumstances, I think you can always find great new music to listen to by going out to bars and clubs. Then again, I've never experienced the music scene here as an artist, but hopefully when the pandemic blows over I will get to really see how it is.
