Andreea Stan Drops New Single ‘Get Away With Murder’

Earlier this year, Andreea Stan, a Bucharest-based singer-songwriter, announced the release of her single “Get Away With Murder”; an indie-rock single shaped by a balance of raw emotional overload and a dramatic, dark, rock edge. The track establishes its atmosphere almost immediately with a strong guitar riff, drawing listeners into a world of reclaiming power and refusing to be quiet; the tension is killing me.
Musically, I believe that Stan’s vocal performance is the key strength of the tune; she delivers each word with conviction whilst keeping that sense of restraint which allows the listener to hear the weight of her words, and how her feelings are genuine rather than an exaggeration. The single blends contemporary pop production, but there are subtle cinematic musical influences, in other words, you can picture the music video behind this single. Stan says “Filming the video was one of the most exciting parts for me as I’ve never done this before…we somehow managed to choose the coldest day of the year (haha)… I am very happy and proud of the final result; the freezing was definitely worth it.” The arrangement and production are nothing short of perfect, the moody instrumentals with that slight country twang from the guitar allows her use of texture to explode and the dark themes unfold almost naturally.
The song was written and composed on an acoustic guitar by Stan herself, but once producer, Daniel Olteanu, got his hands on the track in the studio, they were all able to bring the vision to life. Lyrically, Stan writes in a surreal metaphorical storytelling style, she says “It was the first song I wrote from a place of rage and release, and the song that helped me reclaim myself after injustice and emotional destruction.”
Stan’s lyrics avoid the betrayal cliché that we so often hear in music; she focuses on the consequences rather than the blame. She is able to create a narrative that feels almost relatable for a listener.
Stan’s love for music shines through this track through the careful choices and curation of the song; she says that “Music saved my soul, and now my soul wants to save some more”.
