Rising singer-songwriter Clarity Liao is back with her third solo single, “Love You More,” a tender and emotionally rich release that marks a sophisticated new chapter in her artistry. Blending polished pop with subtle R&B textures, the track captures the quiet intensity of unrequited love and the weight of words left unsaid.
Having written songs since the age of seven, Liao is no stranger to the spotlight. Before her solo emergence, she served as the principal songwriter for the band Navillera, where she penned their hit debut single “Too Young,” which secured the 2024 Yamaha National Best Popular Music Award. Her streak of critical acclaim continued when her composition “I Need You” took first place in the YMS 2025 National Composers competition.
Now, stepping fully into her solo era, Liao is trading the collaborative band sound for something deeply personal and exploratory.
“Love You More” serves as a poignant preview of her forthcoming EP, Dear…. The project is conceptually structured as a series of emotional “letters,” giving voice to private thoughts regarding love, jealousy, and self-acceptance.
For this specific "letter," Liao drew from a uniquely relatable experience: the silent admiration of a stranger.
“The first time I sat down to write this song, it was about someone I admired from afar, someone I never even spoke to,” Clarity shares. “My feelings kept growing, but I was too scared to say anything. So instead, I wrote this song as a letter.”
While originally envisioned as a soft piano ballad, “Love You More” evolved during production into a genre-fluid track inspired by the smooth flows of SZA and the contemporary energy of BABYMONSTER. By introducing a warm, R&B-influenced bassline, Liao has created a sound that feels both intimate and modern.
The track's emotional core is anchored by the standout lyric: “Nothing really hurts / but it hurts that you don’t know me.” It’s a moment of raw honesty that showcases her ability to balance a rhythmic groove with lyrical vulnerability.
Drawing inspiration from a wide spectrum—including Bruno Mars, Adele, and Olivia Rodrigo—Liao’s music reflects a musician who is grounded in classic songwriting but unafraid to experiment.
“This song really presents what I felt at the time,” she explains. “It’s everything I wanted to say but couldn’t. It also shows a different side of me and lets me explore a new sound.”
As anticipation builds for the release of Dear…, Clarity Liao is proving to be a compelling and versatile new voice in the pop landscape, one who isn't afraid to be human, one step (or letter) at a time.
