Epic Pop Band My Life Story Returns with an Intimate London Show at the 100 Club

Exciting news for music enthusiasts and fans of the Britpop era as legendary epic pop band My Life Story announces a special one-off show at the iconic 100 Club in London on Saturday, 17th February 2024. Led by the vibrant and charismatic frontman Jake Shillingford, My Life Story is set to captivate audiences once again with their unique blend of playful lyrics and epic pop melodies. With this upcoming performance being their first in London in over two years, the anticipation is already building for what promises to be a memorable evening of music and nostalgia.

Formed in Southend in 1984, My Life Story quickly became a pioneering force in the Britpop movement. They rose to fame with six UK top 40 singles and a top 40 album, leaving an indelible mark on the era's orchestral identity. The band's passionate and chaotic live performances caught the attention of Giles Martin (son of George Martin of The Beatles), who recorded tracks for their debut album 'Mornington Crescent' after discovering them at The Marquee.

Their breakthrough came in 1996 when they signed with Parlophone and released 'The Golden Mile', which spawned several hit singles including '12 Reasons Why I Love Her', 'Strumpet', and 'Sparkle'. Subsequent collaborations with artists such as Morrissey, The Pogues, and Marc Almond further solidified their reputation as a formidable musical force.

By 2001, My Life Story decided to halt touring and recording, leading to sporadic celebratory reunion shows in the following years. However, in 2016, Jake Shillingford expressed a desire to tour more frequently, and with a revamped alt-rock lineup, the band embarked on a two-year run of '90s nostalgia festival shows. This newfound energy and enthusiasm inspired the creation of new music, resulting in the fan-funded album 'World Citizen', released in 2019 to widespread critical acclaim.

Excitement is building for My Life Story's upcoming fifth studio album, set to be released on Exilophone Records. The album is currently being written and produced by Jake Shillingford alongside Nick Evans, with the mixing being handled by Ben Hillier, known for his work with Depeche Mode, Blur, and other notable artists. The album will feature this year's digital-only singles: 'Numb Numb Numb' and 'Tits & Attitude,' along with eight brand new tracks. Fans can look forward to experiencing these fresh sounds during the intimate London show at the 100 Club.

The 100 Club show promises to be a night of both nostalgia and surprises, as My Life Story takes the audience on a journey through their illustrious career. Jake Shillingford, known for his engaging stage presence, is eager to showcase tracks from the upcoming album while also treating fans to surprise guest appearances from the band's storied past. With almost 30 years since they last graced the 100 Club stage, this show is expected to be a momentous occasion for both the band and their devoted fans.
