Get To Know: Emerging British Talent Scott the Pisces

Scott the Pisces is a British Pop Producer, Songwriter and Artist from London. He released his debut EP Ocean Blue in March of this year, and has just put out his new single 'Crazy About You'.

So firstly, how would you describe your sound?

A nostalgically driven take on modern pop music, with elements of electronic, rnb, hip hop and early 2000s pop.

What’s a typical day in the studio like for you?

I'll usually spend time creating new song ideas starting with the drums, usually from the chorus and work my way backwards. This is followed by writing and recording a vocal demo over the top before sending it off to an artist to record either for myself or their project.

Do you have to be in a certain mood to write a song?

It really does help to be in a motivated, inspired state but not necessarily. Sometimes the best ideas come from randomly playing around on the keyboard, or guitar. The ideas themselves can evoke a certain mood which leads into the rest of the song.

Who are your three biggest musical inspirations?

Kanye West, Dr Dre, Max Martin

Who is the act you've ever seen play live?

That's a really tough question, I'd have to the say that seeing Disclosure do their thing live when they bring their whole setup to a festival is a brilliant experience. Not so much 'Live' but the first live performance on tape I remember captivating me completely, was Jay Z's Madison Square Garden performance for The Black Album on his Fade To Black Documentary.

What’s the toughest part of the industry for you?

Knowing who to trust, and who to avoid. The biggest worry comes from hearing stories of people having their music stolen before it even sees the light of day. This is why I rarely send my music to labels.

What’s the most enjoyable part of the industry?

Meeting creative people who inspire me, it's honestly the best part as it gives me a sense of hope. I sometimes find it hard to feel like I belong when I'm around those who've either given up on their dreams, or never really had any to begin with. Meeting someone who is equally as driven as me really uplifts my spirit.

What’s in store for you for the rest of 2021?

I'm hoping to release another single before the year ends, so I can end on a good 7 releases for 2021. It's been a pretty good year for me creatively, and so I'm wishing that I can carry this over into 2022. I'm also looking into designing and releasing a new line of Scott the Pisces merch so that's quite exciting!
