London-born singer-songwriter Mila Sidhu brings her Indian heritage to the forefront on latest single ‘One Night’, a sultry fusion of alt-pop and R&B built around confidence, desire and taking control.

Seductive and rhythmically charged, ‘One Night’ captures the electricity of walking into a room knowing all eyes are on you. Rather than placing Mila in pursuit of somebody else, the track reverses the dynamic and puts her firmly in control of who gets her attention.

“‘One Night’ is about walking into a room being a beautiful girl and knowing you can have anyone you want in that room,” Mila explains.

That confidence runs throughout the single, pairing seductive vocals with crisp production and a late-night atmosphere that sits somewhere between alternative R&B and darker pop.

Created alongside producer Siloe, the track also represents a deeper exploration of Mila’s Indian heritage. During its early stages, she specifically asked to incorporate Indian influences into the production before developing melodies and shaping the song around her voice.

The process continued during a later trip to India, where Mila worked with an Indian singer to explore traditional musical scales. She subsequently brought those ideas back into ‘One Night’, allowing the cultural influence to become part of the track’s musical foundations rather than simply an aesthetic addition.

That exploration feels particularly significant for an artist whose identity has long existed between different places and cultures.

Half Indian and half white, the 25-year-old grew up moving between countries and never lived anywhere for more than seven years. Rather than associating home with one geographical location, Mila has increasingly used music to create her own sense of identity and belonging.

A Berklee alum, she draws from alternative R&B, jazz, hip-hop and darker pop, with influences ranging from Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill to Billie Eilish and Norah Jones. Her songwriting frequently begins with heightened emotion, turning experiences surrounding love, lust, heartbreak, femininity and self-discovery into intimate, cinematic songs.

On ‘One Night’, however, vulnerability takes a back seat to control.

The uncertainty that often appears within Mila’s songwriting is replaced by something more knowingly seductive: the thrill of being desired while understanding that the final decision remains entirely hers.

That contrast also feeds into the wider visual identity developing around her music. Dark, feminine, glamorous and cinematic, Mila’s world places sensuality alongside independence and softness alongside power, while increasingly bringing her Indian heritage together with the Western and global influences that have shaped her life.

With ‘One Night’, Mila Sidhu doesn’t attempt to choose between those different sides of herself. Instead, she brings them together in a confident new chapter that puts heritage, femininity and control firmly at its centre.
