Danish artist Nikoline Corlin, known by her stage name NikoCorlin, is gearing up for the release of her latest EP, If You Can Dream It. This five-song collection, set to be released via Carrie Management, presents a raw and introspective journey through themes of ambition, fragile relationships, and the gender inequalities that permeate the music industry.
Building on the success of her debut album, NikoCorlin took a daring creative leap, challenging herself to push her artistry into new territories. Reflecting on the process, she shared, “Last winter, I went to New York after releasing my debut album. I locked myself in a small room for five weeks to write. The isolation was essential to drown out the noise and focus entirely on my music. I wanted to confront my self-doubt head-on and create without any outside influence.”
The result is, If You Can Dream It, an EP born from a period of deep introspection and artistic experimentation. Written in a small Brooklyn apartment, the five tracks are a window into Corlin's unfiltered creative process. The EP carries a vulnerability and authenticity that feels like an unguarded conversation between the artist and her audience.
Corlin enlisted a team of musicians she deeply respects, including Julius Amdisen (Kind mod Kind), Milo Duckert Aurvig, and Emil Emborg (Neon Priest), to help bring her vision to life. Together, they crafted a soundscape that shifts between intimate, stripped-down moments and larger, more anthemic sound structures. The result is a nuanced EP that pulls the listener through a spectrum of emotions and perspectives.
The standout single, 'Late To The Party', delivers a sharp critique of the gender imbalance in the Danish music scene. It highlights the obstacles women face in a male-dominated industry, capturing Corlin’s frustration and determination in equal measure. She describes the EP as exploring “the different facets of being an artist, especially as a woman in the music industry. Some tracks have an intimate, introspective vibe, while others are more outspoken, inviting listeners to dance through their insecurities.”
Sonically, If You Can Dream It, is anchored in simplicity yet layered with emotional depth. Corlin’s use of large synth surfaces, sparse instrumentation, and multiple vocal tracks evokes a feeling of loneliness amidst the crowd. Her voice moves fluidly from sorrowful and raw to clear and searching, capturing the uncertainty and hope that defines much of the EP.
The title track, If You Can Dream It, serves as the thematic heart of the collection, encapsulating the tension between ambition and the possibility of failure. Corlin reflects, “The title is a reference to the idea that as long as you can dream and believe in it, it will succeed. Dreams can also be the ones that hurt us the most if they don’t come true, but they remain our driving force. They are the one thing no one can take away from us.”
NikoCorlin’s, If You Can Dream It, is a fearless and thought-provoking EP that reveals an artist unafraid to confront both her inner demons and the external challenges of the industry. With its blend of vulnerability, ambition, and sharp commentary on sexism in the music scene, it offers listeners not just a collection of songs but a deeply personal manifesto of resilience.
