After more than 20 years of quietly building a reputation as one of Ireland’s most emotionally resonant songwriters, Peter Doran has officially entered a new era with the release of his sixth studio album, All the World is Running on a Mystic Code. The album is already generating buzz for its evocative songwriting and cinematic scope.
The 10-track record blends folk roots with ambient, alternative, and experimental touches. “Mystic Code” opens the album with a slow-burning sense of wonder, while standout tracks like “Clockwork” and “Never Say Goodbye” delve into deeply personal territory. “Clockwork,” in particular, explores Doran’s emotional state during a tense moment in his life—waiting for news from a prenatal scan during the pandemic.
The album features an all-star cast of collaborators, including Nicky Brennan, Fiachra Kinder, and Gerard Toal, who help create a soundscape that’s both expansive and intimate. Production duties were largely handled by Doran himself, with Kim Rosen (known for work with Bonnie Raitt and Aimee Mann) on mastering duties.
A short film, produced in collaboration with filmmaker Conor English, accompanies the album and adds a striking visual dimension to the experience. The film, shot in the Westmeath countryside, includes stripped-back performances of key tracks and captures the album’s themes of nature, transformation, and stillness.
All the World is Running on a Mystic Code is more than just a collection of songs—it’s a journey. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to Peter Doran’s work, this album is a must-listen for 2025.
