San Francisco-based singer-songwriter Sukie Mason has delivered a debut EP that’s as versatile as it is intimate.

My Blue, Blue Sky traverses folk, blues, indie rock, jazz, and Americana, each track a small story imbued with emotion and texture. “I don’t have a simple answer when people ask what kind of music I write,” Mason admits. “I love starting with a musical sound and finding lyrics and a melody to match it.” This ethos drives an EP that’s cinematic, personal, and sonically adventurous.

The opening track, Move Along, introduces listeners to Mason’s world with an upbeat Country/Americana flair. The song chronicles a hardworking mother breaking free from a suffocating relationship, pairing tight harmonies with an infectious melody. Mason’s lyrical wit and keen eye for storytelling make this track an immediate standout.

Believe Me shifts the mood entirely. Set against a bluesy, honky-tonk backdrop, the track tells a story of danger and disbelief, reminiscent of an Old West saloon tale. The narrative’s tension—highlighting the struggle of a woman fighting against injustice—reveals Mason’s courage in tackling darker, socially resonant themes while maintaining musical sophistication.

The EP also highlights Mason’s softer, jazzier side in Can’t Sing in That Key. This track, recognized as a finalist in the Great American Song Contest, layers moody melodies with Kevin Stewart’s sublime saxophone solo, delivering a smoky, melancholic atmosphere that lingers long after the song ends. It’s a clear example of how Mason can balance technical skill with emotional resonance.

My Blue, Blue Sky is more than just a debut—it’s an introduction to a songwriter who can traverse genres, moods, and narratives with ease. Mason’s ability to blend storytelling, musicality, and emotional depth marks her as an artist to watch, one whose work promises to evolve in exciting directions. For listeners ready for music that challenges, comforts, and captivates, this EP is essential listening.
