Through the golden age of rock & roll: Chris Ruggiero

"I Am Chris Ruggiero" is a collection of classic songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s, re-imagined by Chris Ruggiero.

The album was co-produced and all of the songs were arranged by Charlie Calello, who holds the record for the most pop/rock hit records of any arranger (62 singles in the Top 40). Songs feature live orchestras of 6 to 22 pieces.

The album opens up with a glorious, dreamy version of 'Run to Me' which has rich piano and strings. Ruggiero's voice is warm and oh-so powerful. The lovesick angst of this track is instantly relatable and sets the tone of the album perfectly. 'Betcha By Golly Wow' is a brilliant rendition of a silky jazz number with soulful electric piano chords and a vocal melody that is richly melodious and memorable. The sauntering groove meshes beautifully with layers of orchestral strings. 'My Cherie Amour' is a cheeky, fun uptempo song about love in its all splendour, whilst 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' is by contrast, dramatically theatrical and dark. Love in all its shades is examined so well via this collection of tracks by Ruggiero. There are hints of Frank Sinatra and of Michael Bublé, and very much of a James Bond movie soundtrack.

Ruggiero truly breathes new life into the timeless music of the 1950s, 60s & 70s. A personal favourite of ours is 'Californian Dreamin' which is ultra sleek and has all the feel-good vibes of the original, yet it is emboldened by Ruggiero's own unique voice, and the addition of a stand-out brass section. We also love 'The More I See You' with its infectious piano-playing and rock n roll swing. Closing track 'This Magic Moment' has a gorgeous Spanish guitar arrangement opening the song, before a heartfelt voice will carry you away. The album is equal parts soothing, equal parts uplifting and soul-warming. There is truly something for everyone within; for people of all ages.
