Why Another draw comparisons to Radiohead and Muse, as well as Arctic Monkeys and Grizzly Bear. Their new EP is ‘The Color Is Off.’

The EP has been out since October 23, 2026. Across its five tracks, the band take on the act of questioning life while being in motion.

Live shows have always been at the core of Why Another, and recording live together in one room has been their preference whenever possible. This time around, the songs are more direct than those in their earlier releases, but the emotional weight is no less profound. They were recorded with extras like 12-string guitars, unusual percussion, and moments and textures nobody planned. The songs have a groove to them, with big choruses and melodies that stick.

The songs on The Color Is Off were written across very different stretches of the band’s career; while the title track is one of the band’s oldest, the other four were all written in NYC.

‘Life Distraction’ is a song that unpacks the feeling of being out of step with the world around you. When social cues slip past you, and you feel rejected and like you don’t really belong, it can become hard to figure out what to do next. That’s the feeling that this song comes from, and it’s all about the decision to carry on regardless. The line “I only do what is right for me” is an admission of a selfish tendency, a recognition that you still move through life from the inside out, so to speak.

‘Abundance’ chronicles an argument between two halves of the same mind. One half always pushes to better itself, while its counterpart seeks self-sabotage. The song acknowledges the destructive patterns that we repeat, while also recognizing that we do it because we’re scared to grow and because we’re scared to remain the same. The song also traces what it is to move through life unnoticed, like a ghost.

‘Moonrise’ is a song set in the doorway of the home, where a known life exists on one side, and the unknown lies beyond it. The song poses questions about life, like, if you go, what will you learn, and if you stay, who will you become? It comes from a fleeting late-night thought.

‘Until I Get Old’ is about how you form your own set of values in the face of the world’s pressure to help shape your beliefs. We often react instead of truly taking the time to reflect, and we often find ourselves trying to resist getting molded by someone else’s ideals.

The title track is meant to be a culmination of ideas present in the other songs on the EP, and is about establishing trust in your own intuition, then establishing it again. Some moments feel real and others feel imagined, and in either case, it’s difficult to know what is right and wrong, real and distorted. The song is in fragments, shifting through a dreamlike state to reflect that feeling. The final line of the song, “you’ll do just fine,” doesn’t come with a clean resolution of any kind, but it’s meant to convey a strong message of hope, leaving us in the feeling that a storm is coming, and trust in yourself is the way to weather it.

The Color Is Off comes with a companion narrative short film that features a collaborative effort from creatives and filmmakers who work alongside Why Another. This film drifts in and out of surreal scenes, with the tracks from The Color Is Off appearing at unexpected moments throughout. The film was made to premiere at the band’s release show at The Sultan Room in Brooklyn, a night with support from bands in the NYC music community, and it gets a wider release later this fall. The band intend to record and produce another album next year.
