Expected for release on the 7th of January 2022, Off The Grid is the latest single from seventeen-year-old singer songwriter Annah Marcelle.
This track feels more of a cathartic release compared to her last song, Monster In My Mind, in which she mentioned herself was much angrier in sentiment, due to it being at a time where love felt lost. Now, a year on, despite being calmer and having an upbeat and catchy melody , looking back in reflection, the overall feeling of this track is sadness:
‘The words you said just whisper in my ear, I can't believe it’s been a year, I need you to disappear’
Albeit, the four-and-a-half-minute track is glorious in its authenticity and honesty; the lyrics being beautifully poetic and mature, far beyond her years. Known to layer up her vocals, in most of her songs, with tightly knit harmonies, this track absolutely shows Annah’s musical potential, not just in terms of song writing and arrangement but in her development for production too.
The bridge builds to be an emotion-filled outburst, with Annah echoing her vocals to almost reflect the overworking and distracted mind in which is trying to navigate through the sadness of a heartbreak.
‘I wish you were off the grid, can you escape my head, cause we’re not speaking and I’m just thinking, I don’t mean this personally...’
