Spain’s alternative music scene has a new standout: chinachinachina.

Their debut album, dive in / breathe out, is a lush, hypnotic exploration of vulnerability and clairty. From the first note, it’s clear that the Málaga trio has a refined sense of atmosphere, blending dream rock, contemporary R&B, and subtle electronic flourishes into a sound that feels effortless yet meticulously crafted.

The album’s two-part structure mirrors the emotional journey it seeks to create. dive in pulls the listener under, exploring mistakes, heartbreak, and introspection, while breathe out offers the calm and release that follow intense personal experiences. Across both movements, the band balances emotions of anxiety and peace, showing mastery over pacing and dynamics rarely seen in a debut.

With a feminine, earthy voice reminicest of Hannah Reid of London Grammar fame, Annie Bravo voice elavates Juande Jiménez’s rhymes and Javier Moral’s synths, creating layered tracks that demand repeated listens. Producers John Foyle and Mucky provide cinematic polish without overshadowing the band’s signature intimacy, as seen by previous singles such as “Forget Me”.

What sets chinachinachina apart is their refusal to chase trends. While the album nods to global influences, it remains entirely unbound by geography or genre, creating a timeless listening experience that rewards attention.

dive in / breathe out is the kind of debut that is timeless, a true mark of artistry and layered craft.
