Get To Know: Brooklyn-based Producer and DJ Lyand
Lyand is a Producer and DJ from Brooklyn, New York. When it comes to finding a new sound, Lyand is no stranger to spending hours locked in the studio experimenting endlessly session after session to reach music concepts that feel good. Lyand’s music has been released on Happy Techno, Deep Tech Records, Safe Music, Punchis Records, Tip Tap, Not For Us, Patent Skillz, Monique Speciale, Baroque, and the list goes on.
Lyand’s primary source of inspiration is finding and collecting new music, so his playlist is constantly growing and changing. Over the years, Lyand has been part of multiple line-ups in New York venues such as Sullivan Room, Cielo, Pacha, DL, Dominion, Providence, TBA Brooklyn, and many other private Loft parties.
So firstly, how would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as a mix of Minimal, Tech, Dub, and House.
What’s a typical day in the studio like for you?
When I’m in the studio, I start by experimenting and creating new music concepts after working on projects that need to be finished.
Do you have to be in a certain mood to write music?
I like to write music when I’m inspired by new music or new life experiences, so for every song, the mood can be based on what I’m feeling at the time.
Who are your three biggest musical inspirations?
If I had to name three, In no particular order, it would be The Prodigy, Dr. Dre, and Madlib.
Who is the best band you’ve ever seen play live?
My favorite live band experience was seeing Rage Against the Machine at Rock The Bells festival at Randell’s Island, New York, in 2007.
What’s the toughest part of the industry for you?
The toughest part is dealing with uninspired people.
What’s the most enjoyable part of the industry?
The most enjoyable part is collaborating with music creatives.
What’s in store for you for the rest of 2021?
I have a new release coming out within a month and a few more that haven’t been scheduled yet.
