Fresh off the release of her radiant new single “Better With Us,” North East-based artist Jenna Louise is stepping boldly into a new era—one defined by joy, authenticity, and emotional growth. Teaming up with beloved folk-pop duo The Dunwells, the track captures a luminous celebration of connection, love, and the everyday moments that bring us closer together. In this heartwarming conversation with Curious For Music, Jenna reflects on the personal journey that shaped the song, the creative magic of collaboration, and her evolution as a genre-fluid artist. From writing fictional love songs that became prophetic to crafting modern anthems for weddings and beyond, Jenna Louise is proving that everything truly is “Better With Us.”

Welcome to Curious For Music! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your latest release?

Thank you for having me! This song was brought to life in the studio. I had the idea of wanting to make the perfect  'First Dance' song for a wedding, and that came with inspiration from my current relationship, along with the magic of Joe & Dave's talents. I really wanted a feel-good song, one to be listened to and just instantly make people happy - something relatable to all, whether you are getting married or not.

What was the creative process like for this project?

Magical. I went in with a vision, gave the guys a reference track that I took inspiration from, laid down what lyrics I already had, and the rest was just a beautiful process. I could hear certain instruments I wanted in there, and we were all on the same creative page - it was fab.

How does this new release differ from your previous work?

I love my previous work, and it's been one hell of a journey creating it, but there is just something about the feel of this song that makes me absolutely ecstatic to perform and listen to it! Better With Us feels more... 'me' - it brings out my fun and bubbly personality. Don't get me wrong, I think I'll always be a genre-fluid artist, but I'm really enjoying this direction at the moment, and I'm ready to explore more of what we can create.

Were there any particular challenges you faced while making this music?

I think the only challenge is that I don't play an instrument, but with talented people collaborating with you, it really doesn't matter. I can listen to something or feel a certain part of the song that's going a certain way, and feel confident enough to share my thoughts to see if what I can hear in my head could be placed somewhere.

Did you collaborate with any other artists or producers on this project?

Myself and The Dunwells created this beautiful song, and I couldn't be happier. Joe & Dave are a dream to work with, and they understood the vision. The guys produced and made the music for the song, and we all shaped the lyrics to make them fit the vibe.

What message or emotion do you hope listeners take away from this release?

I really want my listeners to feel the happiness that I do when singing and hearing the song. I'd love for them to see the vision that I had in mind and want to use it for their first dance or part of their big day, but not only that - I want people to just relate to it. Your soulmate doesn't have to be your partner; this song could be a celebration of that one friend who's had your back since day one, or that family member who's never left your side. The song's true meaning is that 'Everything works better with us' - that could be anyone. I'm also hoping that the listeners who don't feel like they have 'that person' yet, feel hope that one day, they will. I've crawled out of some dark places and never thought I'd find the love of my life who is also my best friend - believe me, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I think I've noticed alot of my followers and friends have just taken pure happiness from this song knowing where the emotion comes from - hearing some of my older work would help you understand that I've come a long way, and my listeners see and hear that - that's a lovely feeling in itself.

Is there a story or concept that ties the songs together?

Absolutely, Better With Us is about the power of connection and joy. It’s a reminder that even when things feel heavy or uncertain, we’re stronger together. The song came from a very real place of craving closeness and unity, and I wanted it to feel like a warm hug when listening to it, but also a song you want to dance to and have fun too. It’s about celebrating the people who lift us up and make the world feel a little lighter just by being in it. The lyrics 'Everything works better with us' came from a moment where I was out for the day, sharing family time with my partner and his children. Reflecting upon those moments really carved that lyric for me, so I guess that's a little insight into where one of the main hooks came from.

How has your sound or style evolved on this release compared to your earlier work?

I've always written songs from my personal experiences, I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I think that shines through in my lyrics and performances. This song really isn't any different other than I am in a much better place personally, and I feel like writing much happier songs and sharing the fun side of me. I love all of my music, but when I listen back to some of my songs from the album, I feel like I've outgrown some of my music on the basis that I've dealt with those emotions and although they are still very much a part of me... I'm not in the same headspace as I was. But, that comes with anything in life - when you grow apart from someone or grow as a person, your mindset shifts, and it doesn't mean you don't like that particular thing anymore - it just means you've grown and evolved. I think that's what I am doing right now.

Is there a track in your music discography that feels especially meaningful to you? What makes it stand out?

'Like i Do' I just love it. I wrote this song in 2023 with Carl Pemberton with the perfect 'wedding aisle' song in mind, and it was actually the first song I'd written, which was totally fictional. The past year has made me realise that it was a manifestation of how I hoped I'd feel when finding the love of my life... and now I really resonate with my own song more than ever, it's so emotional, and I also perform this for brides now to walk the aisle.

How do you plan to share this release with your audience? Are there any upcoming performances, videos, or special projects in the works?

Yeah, I mean I'm in the middle of building my own band so more performances and a tour will be in the planning very soon however, at the moment I'm very busy performing as a solo across the North East singing my own music and I'm looking to branch out further - keep an eye on my social media, I post the locations each week. At the moment, I'm uploading content across my Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. I've been featured on radio stations such as BBC Introducing and added to multiple playlists on Spotify, which is just amazing. All of the publicity is helping, and I can't thank you enough for the support in helping me with my release by giving me this interview.
