Independent artist Katie Dauson is ushering in a new era of psychedelic rock with the release of her latest single, “The Company We Keep.” Blending the swirling, technicolour spirit of the 1960s with a distinctly modern creative twist, the track arrives alongside an innovative 3D vinyl picture disc designed to be as visually immersive as it is sonically rich. Complete with custom artwork and 3D glasses, the release transforms a traditional format into a multi-sensory experience, reflecting Dauson’s flair for experimentation and her commitment to making music that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly original.

Welcome to Curious For Music! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your latest release?

Thank you! I’m not one hundred percent sure what actually inspired me to write the song; I was just finishing up eating dinner one evening when the song came to me. This type of thing happens sometimes for me when I write songs. I don’t always know what inspires me to write them.

What was the creative process like for this project?

Once the words came to me, I wrote the song. That usually how it works for me. It doesn’t seem to change.

How does this new release differ from your previous work?

I haven’t done a psychedelic song in a few years, so it’s been a while. And this one was completely different than the previous psychedelic song that I released back in October 2022.

Were there any particular challenges you faced while making this music?

No. Everything was really straightforward.

Did you collaborate with any other artists or producers on this project?

Not with the writing of the song itself. I always work with my producer/engineer, James Nickle when I’m recording the song. He also mixes and masters the music.

What message or emotion do you hope listeners take away from this release?

I hope that when people listen to this song, they understand that there is always hope to get out of being in a bad place in your life.

Is there a story or concept that ties the songs together?

The concept is about someone who is sitting in a room, just watching their life go by every single day, and they hesitate to do something about it, but in the end they really do want to get out there.

How has your sound or style evolved on this release compared to your earlier work?

My sound is always evolving, and is different on every release. I try to mix things, so it doesn’t all sound the same.

Is there a track in your music discography that feels especially meaningful to you? What makes it stand out?

My favourite song that I’ve written, recorded , and released is One More Step from my 6th album, Pure Katie.  It’s meaningful to me because I’m a hopeless romantic. What makes it stand out, at least on the record, is that it breaks it up, and slows down the pace a little bit.

How do you plan to share this release with your audience? Are there any upcoming performances, videos, or special projects in the works?

I have a lot things going on right now, so yes, there is some top secret stuff in the works.
