I’m MB03 I was born in Chicago , IL in 1995 and move to Hammond , IN in early 2000’s to avoid poverty issues & gang violence as I stayed on 82nd exchange as a kid hearing shootings almost everyday on the street we lived on. My dad played bass guitar & my mom sung in choir at church they both died to murder while I was 16&21 ..music is been my only escape since then as I start rapping at school and growing traction and every since then I been labeled as “suppose to make it out “ person of the crew but battling mental issues at times MB03 is finding a new way to transition pain and anger into music tunes that the world can understand . New song “ add it up” dropped with one of the biggest UK labels “Your Own Music” Mb fan base is growing rapidly and the labels are looking and promoters are starting to book the young up and coming star that has a lot to tell a real story that will heal many !
So firstly, how would you describe your sound?
I’ll describe my sound as a “Aggressive Soul Rap” honestly sometimes I make songs very high pitch or very deep tone just depending on feeling on song mostly pain in my voice from life situations definitely different from the music from the world today .
What’s a typical day in the studio like for you?
I just like being alone in the studio just me and the engineer I really don’t do a lot of features or like bein around of bunch people I love people but I’m real introverted especially when it’s time to create I like getting to it right away.
Do you have to be in a certain mood to write a song?
I battle PTSD & Anxiety so my moods switch sometimes and yeah I can only write when I feel it I mainly freestyle though and just remember few words in my notes lol really all feeling depending when I hear the beat .
Who are your three biggest musical inspirations?
My dad “David brooks “ was a bass player just love his hustle always made a living off his name , Frank Ocean & Playboi Carti even tho I sound like nether.
Who is the best band you've ever seen play live?
Haven’t seen a bunch of live band shows but my brother Runere Brooks played for Jennifer Hudson on TV a few days back probably one of the best live sets I heard in awhile he a bad dude .
What’s the toughest part of the industry for you?
Awwwwwww man I’m still independent because of the ways of the industry.. deals are not the best , not really base on pure talent no more , bunch of wishy washy relationships got to be careful managing myself is the hardest though even tho it’s been 3 years been long & rough but will make sense soon.
What’s the most enjoyable part of the industry?
doing shows and making music the absolute beat and connecting to people with similar stories is what it’s all about
What’s in store for you for the rest of 2021?
Was just shooting a video called “cancer “ with my brother rarri that’s coming soon and my debut EP “Momma Child” around Halloween which is my birthday and I have a show September 21st “mini fest” in Chicago so last few months are pretty busy got the GOAT! Lol
