Get To Know: UK-based rapper Majick

Majick is a rap/freestyle artist from the ten foot city, Hull, UK. His latest release 'Sorbet' was the funk hiphop banger that we've all been waiting for this summer, with hiphop dancers and social media users alike jumping on the funky bandwagon and backing Majick this summer. Majick is a serious independent artist that is bringing new styles to the table with every release, showing of his versatility and skill to flow to different beats, he never ceases to amaze.

So firstly, how would you describe your sound? We are LOVING 'Sorbet'!

My sound is very eclectic, I range from heavy rap/trap sounds where I try to push my thoughts and feelings, messages and hopes. All the way to the funky more upbeat side of Majick with tracks like 'Sorbet'! I have that kinda roller coaster personality and I think this definitely comes out when you look back across a few of my tracks. So glad you guys liked the new track !

What’s a typical day in the studio like for you?

A typical day in the studio usually consists of my going in and not coming out until the track is finished, I don't pre write many lyrics, I learned my passion for music through 'freestyling' and coming up with rhymes on the spot so I still keep and element of that within my writing process. I then work very closely with my co-producer (Dziggaone) to make sure we get the best sound out of every track.

Do you have to be in a certain mood to write a song?

Nah, I just enjoy the process. If I know I'm about to hit the studio, I like to go through a few projects and beats until I hear a sound that really gets my creativity flowing. One day it could be one style the next day could be something different. Whatever I'm feeling the most in the moment, that's what I go with.

Who are your three biggest musical inspirations?

ITS SO HARD. To narrow this down. I'm gonna pick three from different genres.

Joyner Lucas for the rap

Blink 182 for the pop punk

Bob Marley for the reggae and feeling

Street Dogs for the more shouty harder punk styles. I try to fuse these together to give a more punky edge to my rap. I Picked 4 didn't I haha!

Who is the best band you've ever seen play live?

Hmm again that's a tough one, I'd have to say I saw Alkaline Trio and they absolutely smashed the set. But I do love seeing all the rappers in my area (Hull City, UK) perform when I'm on a gig with them I Have to say.

What’s the toughest part of the industry for you?

The toughest part for me, as a lad from the tenfoots of Hull City, is not being closely connected to any big wigs in the music industry. But I do pretty well with streams and views through a lot of people supporting me so I can't complain. The people that support me are called the Tenfoot Gang and they all rock! I couldn't ask for any more from them, we just have to keep growing which is in process so again just have to keep at it!

What’s the most enjoyable part of the industry?

The most fun part is seeing your creations come to life and people actually enjoying them, that's the best feeling in the world when you put your heart and soul into working on something and people seem to enjoy it, but the best part is reading the comments or feedback from a project from the true supporters that keep coming back!

What’s in store for you for the rest of 2021?

Ohh that would be telling wouldn't it?! Plenty more to come this year. A big collaboration lined up with a very well known UK rapper from London. A few more projects about to drop. I'm also starting up a little freestyle project with some one take videos so hoping they are recieved well. We shall see, we are very busy and have plenty to look forward to! And now that gigs are back on the cards we will be hitting up the festivals and local scenes once again! big love to you guys for the interview and I have to give shoutout to the local artists in the area, we are all working very hard to get our city on the map and it's so great to see. A big shout out to the Tenfoot Gang. Lots of love to everyone. Hope you enjoy my new track. Majick - Sorbet.
