Emerging artist Vaanya Diva opens up in a chat with Curious For Music, revealing the deeply personal story behind her latest release, Time to Trade Up. Inspired by her sister's fight to reclaim her voice, the track is a raw and unapologetic anthem of self-empowerment. Entirely self-produced, Vaanya navigated the creative process solo—learning everything from scratch, overcoming challenges, and ultimately finding her sound. With this release, she marks a bold evolution in style and substance, offering listeners a moving journey of self-discovery and resilience.

Welcome to Curious For Music! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your latest release?

This song draws inspiration from my sister's experiences in a relationship that silenced her voice. Despite the challenges, she fought back and found her freedom. This journey is captured in the spirit of "Time to Trade Up."

What was the creative process like for this project?

The journey was both lengthy and challenging. Since this was the very first project I had ever produced on my own, I had to learn the ropes with each and every step.

How does this new release differ from your previous work?

The vocal delivery, lyrical message, and authenticity of the sound all differ from my previous releases. Every aspect is genuine, heartfelt, and unapologetically raw.

Were there any particular challenges you faced while making this music

I would say the biggest challenge was finding a good sound engineer for the final mix. This is your life's work, and it's crucial to have someone who truly understands and appreciates your vision involved in this stage. Eventually, I chose Nik Studios in Tilesyard, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results!

Did you collaborate with any other artists or producers on this project?

No, it was an entirely solo project.

What message or emotion do you hope listeners take away from this release?

Self-empowerment is at the heart of this message. I hope that listeners walk away feeling uplifted and confident in their own worth—not because of someone else's approval, but because they acknowledge their own value.

Is there a story or concept that ties the songs together?

Indeed, the central theme of each song revolves around the journey of self-discovery. They explore the complexities of human behavior and the process of introspection.

How has your sound or style evolved on this release compared to your earlier work?

I feel that my style and sound have matured, and it's as if I've finally found a comfortable place within my music—one that I hadn’t experienced before.

Is there a track in your music discography that feels especially meaningful to you? What makes it stand out?

I have a track titled "Addicted," which will mark my third self-produced release. It's incredibly emotive and moving—performing it has brought tears to my eyes. I am a sucker for songs that evoke deep, meaningful emotions.

How do you plan to share this release with your audience? Are there any upcoming performances, videos, or special projects in the works?

I'm sharing small clips on social media and aiming to secure live gigs wherever possible, as that's where I truly shine. However, this presents its own set of challenges. Just like my journey in production, promoting myself in the UK is a new path for me, and I'm learning how to navigate it. So, stay tuned!
