Kevin Farge Shines In New Album 'Country Love Song '

Kevin Farge’s Country Love Song is not so much an album as it is an environment; humid, breathing, and insistently alive.
Across 27 tracks and 1 hour 22 minutes, it resists the tidy logic of sequencing in favor of something more organic: drift, return, recurrence. It feels less composed than grown.
Recorded in a Costa Rican cabin above a surf break, the record carries its geography in its pores. You can hear it in the softened edges of the production, in the way instruments seem to arrive like weather systems rather than arrangements. Farge’s voice sits at the center—steady, intimate, almost conversational; yet always slightly distant, as though heard through foliage and salt air.
What distinguishes the album most is its refusal to respect genre borders. Folk dissolves into Texas slowcore, which dissolves into Brazilian jazz phrasing, which then reappears refracted through alt-country storytelling. “Coastal Fog” is patient and atmospheric, while “Frijoles” feels like sunlight flickering through leaves, buoyed by its bossa nova sway and Gregory Rogove’s subtle architectural touch.
Collaboration here is not decorative but foundational. Little Wings brings warmth to “Memphis,” while Kevin Farge and Kyle Field treat “A Little More Fun” like a shared joke told on a moving Ferris wheel. “Two Bags of Rice” pushes that chemistry further, turning rhythmic experimentation into something almost communal, almost ritualistic.
Yet for all its movement, Country Love Song is equally defined by stillness. “Mariel Pt. 2” suspends time entirely, while “Sing for Me, Darling” feels like staring into a vast green unknown and accepting it will not answer back. Even the more structured songs seem to breathe around silence rather than fill it.
Farge has built a world that rewards attention without demanding interpretation. It is expansive but never chaotic, tender but never fragile. Country Love Song lingers like humidity after rain; unavoidable, enveloping, and strangely clarifying.
