Munan, the brainchild of South Korean/Australian artist Peter Lee, is captivating listeners with a distinctive blend of psychedelic, surf-rock music infused with indie-pop elements. Drawing inspiration from acclaimed artists such as Toro Y Moi, Mac Demarco, and Tame Impala, Munan's sound creates a mesmerizing fusion of genres. With the release of their latest single, "Once Upon a Time", Munan takes us on a nostalgic journey, delving into the origins of the track and unveiling exciting plans for their upcoming EP.
As Munan explores the depths of his musical archives, Peter Lee stumbled upon an old bass-line demo buried within forgotten files on his computer. Instantly captivated by the melody, Lee breathed new life into the track by adding drums and other instrumental layers. It was during this creative process that the concept for "Once Upon a Time" began to take shape. Reflecting on the song's origins, Lee shares, "Once Upon a Time was written late last year as I was scrummaging through old demos & found this old bassline session idea. I instantly fell in love with it and started adding drums and other instruments and then had an idea for the lyrics. The song is a short story of an innocent child coming to find inspiration and slowly maturing into an adult. I could say it’s a 'coming-of-age' song.".
The song encapsulates Munan's signature sound and offers listeners a dream-like, immersive experience. The track carries the listener on a whimsical journey, intertwining nostalgic melodies with introspective lyrics. Lee's vocals glide effortlessly over the intricate instrumental arrangements, creating a sense of tranquility and evoking a range of emotions.
In addition to the release of "Once Upon a Time", Munan also starts teasing his anticipated debut EP, set to be released in September. The EP promises to be a treasure trove of musical gems, featuring not only their recent single, "Mr. Taxi Driver," but also several previously unheard tracks. With each song serving as a standalone story, the EP will showcase Munan's artistic versatility and their ability to seamlessly blend various genres into a cohesive musical experience.
