Seattle outfit Sharkeologist return with a surge of restless energy on “There Will Be Bread,” a punchy, high-octane preview of their upcoming EP TAXIDERMY IS FOREVER. It’s a track that thrives on contradiction, equal parts anxious and exhilarating, turning existential spirals into something you can move to.

From the outset, the single wastes no time establishing its intent. Crunching guitars collide with pounding drums and shimmering keys, creating a dense, propulsive wall of sound that feels both chaotic and tightly controlled. There’s a rawness to the production that captures the band’s live intensity, but it’s sharpened just enough to let every hook land with precision. The addition of saxophone, courtesy of Johnny Butler, is an inspired twist, cutting through the mix with a burst of personality that elevates the track from familiar indie-rock territory into something more unpredictable.

What makes “There Will Be Bread” stick, though, is its emotional core. Beneath the driving instrumentation lies a thread of uneasy introspection. The lyrics wrestle with questions that feel uncomfortably current: authenticity in relationships, the transactional nature of care, and the creeping suspicion that even our most personal connections might be shaped by self-interest. It’s heavy subject matter, but Sharkeologist deliver it with a knowing wink, acknowledging the absurdity of the questions even as they lean into them.

That push and pull, between doubt and release, tension and catharsis. is where the band truly excels. The chorus bursts open like a pressure valve, transforming overthinking into something communal and shoutable. It’s the kind of track that feels just as at home in a packed venue as it does blasting through headphones during a late-night spiral.

As a lead-in to TAXIDERMY IS FOREVER, the single suggests a band growing more confident in their identity, unafraid to pair messy, uncomfortable thoughts with music that demands movement. It’s loud, it’s hook-heavy, and it’s just self-aware enough to make the chaos feel intentional. In Sharkeologist’s hands, even the most unsettling questions come with a rhythm you can dance to.
