With “Painted Intentions”, British-Nigerian artist Temi T has unveiled her most intimate and dynamic work to date.

Known for her ability to seamlessly weave spoken word with genre-blending soundscapes, Temi now takes listeners on a journey through loss, identity, and self-reclamation. The track stands as both a personal confession and a universal story.

The inspiration came from a painful but formative experience: the ending of a decade-long friendship. Unlike the narratives we often hear about romantic heartbreak, Temi dives into the quiet, unspoken grief of platonic separation. “Recording this was my way of seeking closure and finding healing in my truth,” she shares. The honesty in her delivery makes the song both powerful and relatable.

Sonically, “Painted Intentions” is a lush mix of jazz, R&B, and hip-hop textures, layered with the rhythmic urgency of spoken word. It shows Temi’s artistic evolution since her 2023 debut album Love Is Not a Medicine, which included the viral hit “Summer Romance.” While that project introduced her as a rising voice, this new release solidifies her as an artist with staying power and emotional depth.

Temi’s work has always been as much about performance as recording, and her track record proves it. From intimate stages at Soho House to global platforms like Africa’s Biggest Talk Concert, she has captivated audiences with a presence that is both commanding and vulnerable. “Painted Intentions” translates that energy into a recorded piece that feels alive with emotion.

Looking forward, Temi is set to release her next full-length project in 2025, and “Painted Intentions” offers a striking preview of the direction she is heading. It is a song about endings, yes, but also about beginnings—an artist entering a new chapter of her story with courage, honesty, and creative brilliance.
