Ahead of her debut release - with her single 'Mystery Man' - this March 18th, we chat to the wonderful Julanna Jonas!
Julanna Jonas' musical journey can be encapsulated by one word - Courage. Having dealt with personal trauma that would make most wither away, Julanna has showed intense courage and resilience that's only matched by her ambition and dedication to her music. She grew up in Trinidad and even as early as three years old, she displayed a love for music as she would confidently sing with outstretched arm her rendition of R Kelly 'If I could turn back the hands of time' to delighted passers by. Julanna aims to follow in the footsteps of her biggest influences namely Rihanna and Shensea...
- So firstly, how would you describe your sound?
Caribbean flavoured pop with EDM, hip hop, as well as RnB vibes and influences. My music is vibrant, colorful and emotional. It shows my courage and creativity in full display.
- Do you have to be in a certain mood to write a song?
I don't need to necessarily be in a certain mood to write, inspiration could hit at any time. I think what's important is to have the discipline and focus to attract the vibes of creativity that's always floating around. Oh and by the way interesting facts about me is that I share the same Date of Birth as Chloe Bailey - just had to drop that in there lol
- Who are your three biggest musical inspirations?
Rihanna, Shenseea, Anita Baker. But Rihanna is my Queen.
- What’s the toughest part of the industry for you?
The toughest part of the business is getting the right attention that's gonna give you the right exposure to blow up.
- What’s the most enjoyable part of the industry?
I enjoy making music - the act of writing the actual song and watching it come to life. Oh, and seeing others reacting to it in a positive way. This is perhaps the most enjoyable part. Also getting paid for my hard work lol
- What do you have in store for 2022?
2022 I intend to keep growing my audience and fans to the tune of hundreds of thousands if not a million and to keep growing as an artist as well. I'll be releasing a few more singles besides mystery Man which comes out March 18th - it's my debut release by the way.
